Audi - Mercedes Cars

The Audi brand has lasted the test of time that is for sure.   Audi vehicles have been in production since the year 1909. August Horch established Horch in 1909 and traded under the Audi name, due to his inability to use his name for his company.  The name Horch in German means “hark” or “to hear,” therefore, cleverly, Horch decided to use the Latin word for “listen” and there the brand Audi was formed.   Even though officially the company was formed in 1909, Horch completed his first car just eight years earlier.   That was just the beginning.  Audi is known for creating works of art primary in the luxury category of vehicles.

The emblem represents the collaboration of four automobile manufacturers becoming one; Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer.  The amalgamation of these four corporations is represented in the four rings emblem and unique to Audi and the formation of the Auto Union AG.  The new amalgamation was able to produce a wide array of motor vehicles from motorcycles to luxury saloon cars.  During World War II, Audi was forced to dismantle and assets were expropriated without compensation.  This was only a minor hiccup because about a year later they set up shop in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany.  Ever since, Audi customers have remained loyal and swear by the quality of their purchases.  Shortly after the relocation, in 1958, Daimler-Benz acquired ownership of the Auto Union AG.  The new corporation has grown to be one of the major vehicle manufacturers in Germany and is also widely popular throughout the world.

Mercedes is probably the one of the oldest car manufacturers known when it comes to genealogy.  Karl Benz unveiled the world’s first automobile in the year 1886.  After that tremendous feat was accomplished, the Daimler engine was introduced in a four-wheeled vehicle.  The engine was named after Benz’s chief engineer, Gottlieb Daimler, co-founder of DMG (Mercedes was a brand of DMG) and Emil Jellinek; the Daimler-Mercedes engine.  The engine was built to specifications set forth by Emil Jellinek.   Jellinek had been racing DMG automobiles under the pseudonym Mercedes, which was his daughter’s name.  The automobiles gained so much popularity that DMG decided to contract with Jellinek for a series of sports cars that bore his daughter’s name.

In 1901, shortly after Daimler’s death, the first Mercedes car was crafted, although the brand Mercedes was not permitted for trademark until late 1902.  The brand name was eventually used for a model built by Wilhelm Maybach; hence the Daimler-Mercedes was born.  The model was later called Mercedes 35 hp.  In 1926, the Mercedes name was used to form a new brand of vehicles for DMG.  Mercedes-Benz was applied to all vehicles produced from that day forth.  From the start, the Mercedes-Benz name was synonymous with quality and excellence.  Innovation and safety are also terms associated with this brand.  The Mercedes-Benz was the first vehicle to offer airbags which are now all but required in modern vehicles.  Antilock brakes were another feature to come from the Mercedes-Benz brand.  Even today, Mercedes-Benz stands the test of time.
